Position: Facilities Manager
Institution: Distinct Star School
Department: Administration and Operations
Reports to: Head of Operations
The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the effective management, maintenance, safety, and overall functionality of the school's buildings, classrooms, offices, equipment, utilities, and outdoor facilities. The successful candidate will ensure that the school environment remains clean, safe, comfortable, and conducive to teaching and learning.
Educational Qualification: A bachelor's degree or HND in Facilities Management, Estate Management, Engineering, Building Technology, Environmental Management, or a related field.
Work Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in facilities management, preferably in a school or other educational institution.
Maintenance Knowledge: Good knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, electrical systems, air-conditioning, generators, water supply, and other essential school facilities.
Health and Safety: Knowledge of workplace health and safety standards, fire safety procedures, emergency response, and child safeguarding practices.
Supervisory Skills: Ability to supervise cleaners, security personnel, maintenance workers, gardeners, and external contractors.
Budget Management: Ability to prepare maintenance budgets, control costs, monitor expenditure, and manage facility-related resources effectively.
Planning and Organisation: Strong ability to schedule preventive maintenance, coordinate repairs, manage supplies, and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with school management, teachers, parents, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify facility-related problems, respond promptly to emergencies, and implement practical solutions.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and basic maintenance reporting or facilities management systems.
Personal Qualities: Honesty, reliability, attention to detail, initiative, leadership ability, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Professional Advantage: Relevant professional certifications in facilities management, occupational health and safety, project management, or building maintenance will be an added advantage.

Oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and general upkeep of all school facilities.
Ensure classrooms, offices, laboratories, libraries, toilets, playgrounds, sports areas, and other school spaces are clean, functional, and safe.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for buildings, furniture, equipment, and utilities.
Conduct regular facility inspections and ensure that faults, damages, and safety hazards are promptly addressed.
Supervise cleaning, maintenance, landscaping, waste disposal, pest control, and other facility-related services.
Manage contractors, suppliers, service providers, and maintenance personnel.
Monitor electricity, water, fuel, and other utility consumption to promote efficiency and reduce operating costs.
Ensure that fire extinguishers, alarms, emergency exits, first-aid provisions, and other safety measures are maintained appropriately.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, inventory, maintenance costs, and service contracts.
Prepare periodic reports on facility conditions, maintenance activities, expenses, and improvement needs.
Ensure that school facilities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, and building regulations.
Support school events and activities by ensuring that venues, equipment, and other required facilities are ready for use.
Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
Recommend facility upgrades, renovations, and improvements to school management.
