A medical diagnostic center in Lafenwa-Itele Ogun State Nigeria is looking to hire an industrious Medical Lab Technician.
The Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a critical role in the healthcare delivery system by performing complex laboratory analyses that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This position requires a high level of technical competence, analytical thinking, and attention to detail, as the accuracy of laboratory results directly impacts clinical decisions and patient outcomes. The technologist works closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and reliable diagnostic services.
The core responsibility of the Medical Laboratory Technologist is to conduct a wide range of laboratory tests across various disciplines including hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and blood transfusion science. This involves the collection, preparation, and analysis of biological specimens such as blood, urine, and other body fluids. The technologist ensures that all samples are properly labeled, handled, and processed in accordance with established laboratory protocols to prevent contamination or errors.
In addition to routine testing, the Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment and instruments. This includes performing regular calibration, quality control checks, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and accuracy of results. The technologist must also stay updated with advancements in laboratory technology and methodologies to continuously improve service delivery.
Accurate documentation and reporting are essential components of this role. The technologist records test results clearly and precisely, verifies their validity, and communicates findings to the appropriate healthcare personnel in a timely manner. Any abnormal or critical values must be promptly flagged and reported according to established procedures.
The role also involves strict adherence to safety and quality standards. The Medical Laboratory Technologist must comply with all regulatory requirements, standard operating procedures, and infection control guidelines. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of biohazardous materials, and correct disposal of laboratory waste are mandatory to maintain a safe working environment.
Inventory management is another key aspect of the job. The technologist monitors stock levels of reagents and consumables, ensures proper storage conditions, and assists in procurement processes to prevent shortages that could disrupt laboratory operations.
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, along with a valid practicing license where required. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team are also important.

* Minimum of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
* Previous experience in a laboratory setting or specimen accessioning is an advantage.
